You neglected to mention that with the higher cost WCI provides the valuable service of curbside recycling, with collection of all paper, plastics numbered 1-7, glass and cans. My recycle can often contains more than my blue trash can!

I don't know that WCI is--or has to be--the higher cost service.  We certainly pay close to $30 less than the $94 fee listed.

I contacted WCI today regarding their $96/qtr fee. The made no mention of recyclables and never have in the past. When I challenged them with Waste connections $60/qtr fee, they immediately dropped my rate to $66/qtr.

Frankly I feel they have taken advantage of me, and tomorrow, I will change to Waste connections.

There is a free recycle center at crosss Park drive.

I would assume 1/2 of the 260+ households in Belmont West used WCI (blue containers).

If these 130 homeowners switched to Waste Management (green containers), they could each save $120 annually. That would pay association dues for over 2 years or a total savings for the 130 homeowners of $15,600 annually. Pretty soon, that would add up to REAL money.

I called WCI to cancel my account and they offered to lower my fee to be competitive with WM. I told them that if they had offered that without me calling I would have considered, but was still changing from WCI to WM.

I wonder if we could all save more money if everyone contracted with the same provider. I understand some subdivisions have done this and saved a $$$$.

sounds like a worthy notion to explore.  what percentage do you think the participation needs to be? I recycle and would like my waste handler to do so.

After reading the various posts above, I contacted Waste Management and was sent a proposal for our consideration. The proposal can be found by going to http://www.belmontwest.org/wasteproposal.htm Some discussion on this would be helpful to the association officers. You can also see the proposal by clicking on the wasteproposal file below.

I called and switched to Waste connections this week.  WCI didn't offer me a reduced rate when I told them why I was switching.  I already have my new can!

Even though it may not be much of a cost benefit for the Belmont West Homeowners Association to contract with Waste Management, it certainly is beneficial for individuals to switch to Waste Management. After paying the one time setup fee of $35.00, my fee for 3 months was still less than the quarterly fee from Waste Connections. The savings is considerable. You can save about $60 per year if recycling and get two 96 gallon containers, one for recycling and one for waste (different colors). If you are not recycling or prefer the free recycling on Cross Park Drive, the savings amounts to about $140 per year. The website of Waste Management is www.wm.com and the phone number is (865) 525-0529.

Waste Management also provides recycling for $7.00 per month keeping it still under the base price ( no recycling) for WC.  We take our stuff to the Center, but WM is really saving us $$

I cannot understand why anyone would stay with Waste Connections of TN unless they have money they want to throw away. My recent statement from Waste Management was $54.13 and the last statement from Waste Connections of TN before I switched was $93.99. That is a savings of $159.44 per year. Recycling with Waste management is free at the recycling center and if you want curbside recycling, it is an additional $7.00 per month but much less than Waste Connections.
